The funniest play ever to make you cry! If you've seen the movie, you are going to love the play; if you haven't seen the movie, you MUST see the play...you'll adore it!
"Steel Magnolias" is a beautiful, bittersweet comedy set in America's deep south in Truvy's Beauty Parlour as six very special friends are bonded together by their mutual triumphs and tragedies. Despite their differences, beautiful and impulsive Shelby, her strong-willed mother M'Lynn, beauty parlour owner Truvy, elegant widow Clairee, sharp-tongued Ouiser and mousy newcomer Annelle, enjoy a friendship that spans the boundaries of age and status. Sharing each others' strengths and loyalty, these six remarkable women survive the cycles of life, birth and death to emerge stronger, closer and still laughing!
"Steel Magnolias" is a heart warming play with six excellent roles for our actresses. We welcome to the Beaumaris Theatre family Trudi Sheppard in the role of "Shelby" and we welcome back to the Beaumaris stage (in some cases after a very long abscence) Lesley Wardrop (our award winning White Witch from "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe")as Truvy; Stacey Stewart ("Cosi" and "1984") as Annelle; Cheryl Threadgold (the writer/director of our 50th Anniversay Panto/Revue, and who appeared in "Summer and Smoke" and "Hiss the Villain" on our stage "some" years ago) as Clairee; Debra Drape (who appeared in "Antigone" here a few years ago) as M'Lynn, and Barbara Stewart (who also appeared in many of our Christmas Revues and in "Lipstick Dreams" and "Rose" a couple of years back) as Ouiser.
Don't miss this exceptional play, which is our VDL entry for 2006.
Please note - The performance on Sunday March 5th is at 3pm. All other performances are at 8pm.
By Special Arrangement with Dominie Drama Pty Ltd.
