For Urinetown is a brilliantly conceived musical comedy that sets out to play with all your preconceptions about musical theatre, and turn them upside down. From go to whoa, it is a hugely entertaining piece that embraces all the well known styles of classic musicals, and presents them in a divertingly satiric way, while never forsaking its integrity as an absorbing example of the musical genre in its own right. In addition, it satirizes corporate greed, the legal system, modern bureaucratic nightmares and the shenanigans of local politics with a witty, inventive and thoroughly melodic score.
