Get ready to meet the most famous comedian you’ve never heard of, Walter Walloon Beckett, all-singing, all-dancing, humorist extraordinaire and the last of the famous Beckett clan. And he’s a rabbit. Trapped on a hilltop in outback Australia, in fear of an unseen assassin’s bullet, Walter reflects on his life and his one true love, Boo Boo the bilby.
Michael Watts’ extraordinary play Not Like Beckett is full of unseemly jokes, razor sharp wit and an entirely unexpected love story.
Not Like Beckett presents that most cunning of metaphoric figures, the rabbit, as an allegory of colonised Australia.
Directed by one of Perth’s hottest directors, Emily McLean, and starring the outrageously funny Sam Longley as the famous rabbit comedian, Not Like Beckett will break your heart while tears of laughter are pouring down your face.
Not Like Beckett was first produced by Malthouse Theatre in July 2006.
