In 2007 deckchair theatre triumphantly returns to the Botanic Garden, Kings Park with another of Shakespeare’s masterpieces, The Comedy Of Errors.
In this, his first play, Shakespeare uses coincidence and mistaken identity to lead his characters through a series of hilarious trials and tribulations that, ultimately, make them all better people.
If you thought that one set of twins was funny in last year’s lauded production of Twelfth Night wait until you see how ingenious Shakespeare is with two sets of twins in The Comedy Of Errors.
One set of twins are merchants the other set are their servants. Each pair of servant and master live in separate cities that have had a long standing rivalry. When all the twins converge on the same city, at the same time, the action and comedy explode.
Over the last four years Western Australian audiences have grown to love deckchair theatre’s Park Ensemble of actors. In The Comedy Of Errors many of our regulars will be back to once more demonstrate the fantastic skills of Western Australia’s acting community. There will also be some new faces on the stage looking forward to strutting their stuff in the Park.
deckchair theatre thanks the Premier of Western Australia, The Hon Alan Carpenter and our corporate partners BankWest, Shell and the Botanic Gardens & Parks Authority for ensuring that Perth is one of the capital cities in Australia presenting Shakespeare in the Park. Their support has enabled this much loved event to remain on the calendar as Perth’s most exciting summer entertainment.
