The City of Swan and TAZ Entertainment are proud to present the encore season of The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband. After a highly successful and completely sold out season of 12 shows at Kalamunda’s Town Square Theatre in July and August, this wicked black comedy by Debbie Issit will be showing at Midland Junction Arts Centre for two shows only.
Directed by the award winning team of George and Terry Hackett, the play is a high energy emotional journey as we follow the tribulations of an ageing Teddy Boy who moves between wife and mistress.
Kenneth and Hilary have been married nearly twenty years, but as middle age encroaches, Kenneth finds himself in the arms of another woman. At first, Laura seems to represent everything that is missing from Kenneth’s life with Hilary, but his little fling quickly becomes desperately out of hand and his world a spiral of lies and deceit.
Told through a series of flashbacks interspersed with the ‘last supper’, The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband is a highly entertaining exploration of jealousy, humiliation, deceit and betrayal which gives an entirely new meaning to the old adage, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”
As a Producer/Director team, George and Terry have won many awards including two ITA Finley Awards for the best play in WA, Same Time Next Year 1999 and Barmaids 2003 and the Finley Award for best musical, Nunsense 2003.
“This play is bawdily funny, but there are many girls out there who have been in this situation, and who will love the ultimate resolution or revenge (depending upon whether they were the wife or the mistress),” Terry says.
“The characters are all well-drawn, and amongst all the frenetic action, there are some very poignant moments”.
Actress Melanie DeCull who plays the bitter wife Hilary said “we have had an amazing experience with this show, one that we’ll never forget. All our audiences were captured by the strong writing and performances. We didn’t want anyone to miss out on seeing it, for those that did it’s wonderful they now have the opportunity to experience our show in Midland”.
