Set in picturesque Venice in the late 19th Century on the island of Barataria, it tells the topsy-turvy tale of the young Prince of Barataria who is left in the foster care of a gondolier, who mixes him up with his own son. The boys grow up as happy gondoliers and take a pretty wife each, before they are told that one of them is now the King! Confusion follows when it is revealed that the Prince was already married in infancy!
