NEHAMA PATKIN MEMORIAL CONCERT Celebrate the life and musical legacy of Nehama Patkin OAM ‘Thank you for having this wonderful woman do anything with my children. She elevates their thinking and challenges them immensely … It is powerful for my child to see what they can aspire to.’ Written comment by parent of a disabled child who had attended a master class given by Nehama Patkin, Aspen Colorado, 1997. On 26 March 2010, a light that had shone radiantly for 70 years, illuminating the teaching and performance of classical music in Australia and overseas, quietly glowed for one last moment before taking its place in the heavens. Nehama Patkin OAM, music teacher, concert pianist, accompanist, cabaret artist, television performer, dancer, singer, pioneer in children’s musical education, and mentor, had a spirit and a gift for living that blessed all those who were fortunate to know her, or see her in performance. Her reputation was international. Beyond music, she was much loved by her children and grandchildren, her partner Ken, her colleagues, students and friends. She was a living inspiration whose loss is still so deeply felt. She celebrated life with a passion. As a teacher and performer, she loved to make other people laugh. Nehama’s friends and family have collaborated to ensure she is honoured with what she loved most: performance. On Sunday 6 March, a number of singers, musicians and dancers whom Nehama counted among her huge circle of friends will gather to present a most exceptional tribute to this guiding star of music.
