Can you have your cake and eat it too?

Kalamunda Dramatic Society (KADS) proudly presents The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband, a wicked black comedy by Debbie Issit, opening to audiences at the Town Square Theatre in Kalamunda on July 15.

Directed by the award winning team of George and Terry Hackett, the play is a high energy emotional journey as we follow the tribulations of an aging Teddy Boy who moves between wife and mistress.

Kenneth and Hilary have been married nearly twenty years, but as middle age encroaches, Kenneth finds himself in the arms of another woman. At first, Laura seems to represent everything that is missing from Kenneth’s life with Hilary, but his little fling quickly becomes desperately out of hand and his world a spiral of lies and deceit.

Told through a series of flashbacks interspersed with the ‘last supper’, The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband is a highly entertaining exploration of jealousy, humiliation, deceit and betrayal which gives an entirely new meaning to the old adage, “the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.”

As a Producer/Director team, George and Terry have won many awards including two ITA Finley Awards for the best play in WA, Same Time Next Year 1999 and Barmaids 2003 and the Finley Award for best musical, Nunsense 2003.

“We were looking for a script that would challenge us, and nothing is more challenging than comedy,” Terry says.

“This play is bawdily funny, but there are many girls out there who have been in this situation, and who will love the ultimate resolution or revenge (depending upon whether they were the wife or the mistress).”

“The characters are all well-drawn, and amongst all the frenetic action, there are some very poignant moments. All in all, our sort of play”, George adds.

The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband is for adults only and will perform a four-week season at the Town Square Theatre home of KADS from July 15 to August 6. Tickets are available from O’Hara’s Pharmacy on Haynes St or by phone 9293 1412.
