Don's Party takes place in the home of Don and Kath Henderson. It is election night, 1969, and the group of longtime friends and Labor supporters get together to celebrate the impending victory by Gough Whitlam's Labor over the Coalition, led by John Gorton.
As the night goes on, it becomes clear that Labor, although gaining a healthy swing, are going to spend another three years in opposition.
Well, that's the setting, but Don's Party has little to do with federal politics, and much to do with the relationships amongst the group that gather on the 25th of October 1969. As the night gets older, and the number of alcoholic beverages comsumed increases, inhibitions fall to the floor as fast as the partygoer's underwear and old conflicts surface.
Don's Party is a play about relationships, and the morality of the middle class in Australia in the late '60s.
David Williamson's classic Australian comedy should not be missed.
