Worth the drive Don’t miss the Perth exclusive performance of the nationally touring Pulitzer Prize winning play Driving Miss Daisy at Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Thursday 18 November at 8pm. The show has a stellar cast with considerable experience on stage and screen. It includes Debra Lawrance (Home & Away, Steel Magnolias), Brian Dawson (Of Mice & Men, The Miracle of Rose) and Tamblyn Lord (Rush, All Saints). This Alfred Uhry play – whose1989 film adaptation won the Academy Award and earned 80-year-old Jessica Tandy an Oscar – is set in America’s Deep South beginning in 1948. Daisy Wertham is a rich, crusty and sharp-tongued Jewish widow of 72. After she crashes her car, her businessman son Boolie insists from now on only African-American chauffeur Hoke will be driving. The explosive tension of the time provides a provocative background. Race, class and education take centre stage as Daisy and Hoke journey toward a unique friendship. The characters inhabit an unforgettable, heart-warming story that spans 25 years and encapsulates a lifetime of memories. At its core this is a story of acceptance, respect and companionship. Admission is standard $35.40, $31.90 concession, $24.70 students and $27.80 for groups of 10 or more. For bookings or information, call 9493 4577 or visit www.gosnells.wa.gov.au and click on the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre link to buy tickets online. “Worth the drive from anywhere. A total delight!” – The New York Daily News
