Details

Step back into Old Time Music Hall Tinsel-tonsilled tenors and talented temptresses will take you back to the past when the Old Time Music Hall comes to Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 16 October at 8pm. This classic form of musical theatre comes replete with popular tune sing-alongs and an array of side-splitting comic capers – both standard fare of this great theatre tradition. The music hall tradition began in the late 1830s in the exclusive male supper rooms of the English elite. Later, it transformed into lavish performances that attracted audiences from all walks of life. Today, audiences still enjoy this playful celebration of theatre and music. The cast features Chairman Extraordinaire Ian Toyne and Hostess with the Mostest Christine Fillis, along with Suzanne Barton, Rob Pring, Sharon McGreevy, Matthew Nankivell, Christopher Wilcox and the effervescent pianist Ben Clarke. This talented troupe of Perth performers have been entertaining crowds with musical hall performances for more than a decade. The troupe’s breadth of professional experience is extensive. Toyne has starred with Debbie Reynolds in the Perth staging of Mamma Mia, while Fillis was formerly in the WA Opera Company and Clarke has performed with artists such as Julie Anthony, Kamahl and The Seekers. This show has something for everyone. The older generations will remember songs from yesteryear, while younger audiences will be enthralled by the joyful theatrical experience that is old time music hall. Admission is $29 standard, $24.70 concession, $18 students and for groups of 10 or more.
