Faurè Requiem
In 1980 the exquisite Sir Louis Matheson Pipe Organ was installed in the Robert Blackwood Hall, Monash University. It was constructed by Jürgen Ahrend in the baroque style of the seventeenth and eighteen centuries and is recognised as one of the finest of its kind. The acclaimed Monash University Organist, harpsichordist, choral conductor and musicologist John O’Donnell is joined by Calvin Bowman (organ), Michael Leighton Jones (baritone), The Monash Academy Orchestra conducted by Jeffrey Crellin and the Monash Concert Choir Viva Voce conducted by Faye Dumont to celebrate the 30th Anniversary in a glorious afternoon of music making
The stunning Bach and Handel works demonstrate the magnificence of the instrument, which is again showcased by Vexilla Regis commissioned for the instrument as part of the University’s 50th celebrations. We finish the performance with voices joining the organ for the beautiful Faure Requiem.
