Kalamunda Dramatic Society proudly presents the psychological thriller Double Diagnosis written and directed by professional actress Alice Dale at the Town Square Theatre commencing Friday July 16.
It’s Halloween night; a young woman arrives at the home of Dr & Mrs Prothero. Dressed in a muddy man’s suit, she seems to be suffering from total amnesia.
Marjorie, who has lost a daughter, immediately 'adopts’ her as her own. Jack is not convinced the girl’s ‘amnesia’ is genuine.
A TV newsflash of an attack (which becomes a murder) in a nearby flat, from which a girl is missing, alarms Jack. He wants to call the police. Marjorie protects the girl and confrontation results.
Their psychiatrist son, Graham, reveals the girl is a mentally disturbed patient and the plot thickens, leading to an unexpected ending when DI McGrath appears on the scene.
First produced at the Effie Crump Theatre in 1997, Dale has since rewritten this dramatic thriller several times to reach its full theatrical pinnacle.
Dale says, “The play deals with some very controversial subjects. I’m sure the audience will have their own unique opinions. I’ve expressed some of mine, but at the same time have allowed the audience the room to have their own.”
Not one for doing things by halves, Dale carried out thorough and extensive research for this play, “All psychiatric information has been accepted as accurate.”
Dale continues, “If Double Diagnosis stimulates discussion after the show, that will be a sign that the audience has been involved with the characters and their unusual situations.”
