The Fence in its Thousandth Year by Howard Barker.
Presented by theatre students in English and Cultural Studies at UWA.
Premier English playwright Howard Barker’s 2005 play, The Fence in its Thousandth Year explores a shadowy world where the pursuits of the personal desires of the protagonists override all considerations of conventional morality. On one side of the fence, a decadent state plagued by the sexual transgressions of its wilful Duchess, and a falling birth rate; on the other side, an underclass of thieves who scrabble desperately to break through into the promised land. A savage and darkly comic exploration of ritual and desire.
Dolphin Theatre, UWA.
Tuesday May 18 to Saturday May 22 at 8pm.
