Skipping Stone’s inaugural production ‘The Innocent’ aims to explore societal expectations of sexual experience and maturity. The characters struggle to balance their internal desires with the external pressures of cultural conformity. Disgusted by their ‘difference’ they reject their individualism in favour of a perceived norm, only to discover that by doing so, they have irretrievably lost a part of themselves. Driven by dark humour, this confronting and thought provoking piece challenges its audience to reevaluate their place in a sex driven culture.
The forty-minute theatre piece will be preceded by an art exhibition that aims to employ a variety of artistic mediums to reflect the themes and issues presented in the theatrical performance and to provide a variety West Australian artists the opportunity to exhibit and retail submitted work. Tea, coffee and light refreshments will be provided.
