A Four Man Testosterone-pumped Romeo and Juliet.
"R&J is a gem, the most inventive re-imaginging of a classic in years."
Wall Street Journal
"With touching performances, beautifully directed using minimal props, it's powerful stuff."
Sunday Telegraph
R&J is an innovative, new interpretation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy. In the repressive atmosphere of a Catholic boys boarding school, four young students decide to stage Romeo and Juliet for their own enjoyment. At first it's just for laughs, but as the young men discover the themes of secret and forbidden love, they gradually immerse themselves in the roles.
This fascinating, insightful and beautifully crafted play was acclaimed in its premiere season at Sydney Opera House Studio in 2001. Now R&J returns in a new production directed by QUT graduate Craig Ilott, whose work is taking Sydney by storm. Winner of the prestigious Lucille Lortel Award, R&J ran for 400 performances in New York City, the longest run of any production of Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare's R&J is an innovative and highly physical interpretation of Shakespeare's classic tragedy in the spirit of The Dead Poet's Society.
