SIDLE up to the Silver Slipper Saloon and book yourselves a seat at MATES Theatre Society’s current production, the musical-comedy Jest at the West, which will open its four week season on Saturday, 24TH October.
Jest at the West is the fiftieth production that this local group has staged since their emergence onto the cultural landscape in 1990.Written by Queensland author Judith Prior Jest at the West will take patrons on a stagecoach ride into the hilarious wild west, and the world of Maggie May’s Silver Slipper Saloon.
The saloon has fallen on tough times; all attempts to diversify and stimulate new business have come up dry. With her bank overdraft long since overdrawn, Maggie believes that the arrival of a mysterious stranger from the city means the Silver Slipper Saloon has served its last three-fingers of Whisky and will close its doors for the final time.
Marnie Went, one of only three original members of MATES, is taking on the dualrole of directing this production as well as playing the lead character, Maggie May.With some of the cast being relatively new to the stage, it has been Marnie’s guidance and leadership which has contributed in many respects to memorable characters being developed.
Audiences will once again find it difficult not to enjoy this evening with MATES, and the group encourage you and your friends to join us in sharing a night of quality entertainment for under $30 in our relaxed theatre-restaurant atmosphere.
