The inaugural Hills Drama Festival looks like being a huge success, with entries coming in from as afar afield as Rolystone and Blak Yak Theatre.

Combined with the ITA’s YouthFest during the day on Saturday, the Hills Drama Festival begins Friday night with a debut director – Kirsty MacDonald with an entry from Marloo – Wedding Day, followed by two of the winners from the Garrick Theatre Club’s playwrights’ competition – Wishes for Sale and The Chateau, a blackish comedy set in war-torn France in 1915.

Saturday night’s plays include Trainspotting, Without a Script, The Trouble With George and Doubting Thomas.

Sunday morning sees the last on the plays – Mona, Lily and Some Days I Don’t Think I Exist. Of the ten plays five are enjoying their world premiere, and several more have never been seen in WA.

Following the judging by Peter Clark, formerly of the Royal Shakespeare Company, the City of Perth Jazz band will perform, closing the Festival.
