The Adventures of Dick Whittington and His Cat

Be part of the fun, frivolity and celebration of pantomime by attending “The Adventures of Dick Whittington and His Cat” at Thornlie’s Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Sunday 11 October at 1pm. The Wembley Theatre Company will perform this hilarious take off of the popular children’s story, which sees Dick Whittington set off for London Town seeking riches, good fortune and ultimately, marriage to the beautiful Alice Fitzwarren. But he’s not alone in his affections for Alice. The dastardly Squire Crow fancies her too, so he recruits the nasty King Rat and his men to ruin Dick’s chance with her. Fortunately for Dick he befriends an extraordinary animal, Charlemagne the Cat, and together they work to counteract the squire’s plot. Amy Harrison returns to play Charlemagne the Cat after taking the lead in last year’s WTC pantomime. Harrison is a regular performer in Perth independent theatre shows and was most recently seen in Phoenix Theatre’s “What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?” Founding company member and regular pantomime performer, Jenny O’Donoghue plays Alice’s mother. This new, original production comes from the pen of the talented pantomime playwright, Tony Nicholls. This English expatriate, and former head of the Curtin University drama department, has been writing and producing pantomimes for more than two decades. They have been performed widely in Australia and in New Zealand. Company founder and former student of Nicholls, Bryce Manning, is the show’s director. Manning’s expertly directs his cast of community, volunteer actors to deliver performances that are engaging, polished and above all entertaining.
