Lost the Plot

Storytelling play for children An hilarious exploration of storytelling tailored for children is the theme of Lost the Plot, a school holidays show at the Thornlie’s Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday 14 July at 11am and 1pm. This innovative theatrical adventure for five to 12-year-olds – inspired by Christopher Booker’s highly-acclaimed work The Seven Basic Plots – takes a quirky and entertaining look at why humans tell each other tales. The Arena Arts and Entertainment production uses theatre to investigate the building blocks of narrative and to explore the role that story plays in teaching us about ourselves and our life choices. Lost the Plot is also interactive, with the audience regularly asked to offer suggestions that the performers act out with riotous results. Performer-director Jessica Messenger has worked in theatre for schools for five years touring with Fine Edge Theatre, Arena Arts and Entertainment and Class Act Theatre. More recently, she won Best Director at Dramafest 2008 for her original production of Rain, which later went on to be short listed at the 2009 Inscription Awards. Cassandra Vagliviello returns to The Don after performing in last year’s Barking Gecko Theatre Company performance of GoGo Fish. Theo Messenger has also worked for Fine Edge Theatre Company and Arena Arts and Entertainment touring to schools for over four years and last year, was nominated in the Best Male Actor Finley Award for his leading role in the Old Mill Theatre production of The Venetian Twins.
