MAJ MONOLOGUES COMPETITION THE FINALS
Suburban Mayhem
In its fourth successful season we congratulate the finalists (in alphabetical order of author) Egan Street by Nadine Browne, Clearwater Estate by Timothy Duncan Clegg,
Crazy World Suburbia by Damien Gavillet, My First Lover by Sophie Gibbs, Looking Through Crystal by Paula Kay, Number 21 Magnolia Street by Karen Menzies,
The Ashes of Rainbows by Annie Otness and Elton Thom by Thomas Povey.
The Competition: Earlier this year, we went searching for Western Australia’s hottest playwrights. The brief was: “write a monologue with an expected performance duration of 8 to 15 minutes to the theme SUBURBAN MAYHEM and you could win $3,000.” Writers were encouraged to be as creative, entertaining, funny or dramatic as they liked. There were well over one hundred entries received.
The Finals Season: Every night during this finals season, Perth’s leading actors will perform ALL of the final eight monologues, directed by Lis Hoffmann - 2008’s Maj Monologues Judges’ Choice winner.
The Judges: Sophia Hall, Lis Hoffmann, Jenny McNae, John Milson and Alison Van Reeken.
The Actors: Caitlin Beresford-Ord, Narelle Cunneen, Brendan Ewing, Vivienne Garrett, Scott Jackson, Leoni Leaver, Michael Loney and Oliver Wenn.
The Prizes: Judges’ Choice award $3,000. Hawaiian People’s Choice award $1,000. Encouragement award $500. All prizes will be awarded following the final performance on Saturday 20 June.
Come and see for yourself. Even we don’t know what to expect!
