presents the well known drama by American playwright Tennesse Williams. A Streetcar Named Desire
Directed by award winning Dannielle Ashton this Pulitzer Prize winning play was first produced on Broadway in 1947 and will appeal to all lovers of a good drama. The story concerns Blanche Dubois, a 'faded southern Belle' who comes to live with her sister and brother-in-law in downtown New Orleans. On arrival she is horrified to find the poor conditions they live in. With her airs and graces and pretensions of being a lady she at first irritates Stanley, her brother-in-law, who becomes increasingly resentful at the influence she appears to be having on his wife. Finding out that her previous life was not as she portrays it he delves in to her past and sets out to get at the truth, ruthlessly destroying her one chance of happiness with Mitch in the process.
The 1951 film version starring Vivien Leigh and Marlon Brando is regarded as a cinema classic.
