All aboard for a trip down memory lane
The great maritime migration from the United Kingdom to Australia in the 1960s and ’70s is translated into a funny and nostalgic musical journey in Musical Memoirs of a Ten Pound Pom at the Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 6 June at 8pm.
This national touring show, a Perth exclusive at The Don, centres on this era of great social change in Australia.
Seasoned performer Hilary Henshaw presents this musical story from personal experience as a Ten Pound Pom.
Her journey began in 1964 when, as a 12-year-old, she set sail for a new life in Australia on the SS Canberra.
Musical Memoirs of a Ten Pound Pom relives her experiences of adjusting to a new country and is complete with a compendium of songs from the British Isles to Broadway.
Henshaw shares her memories of yesteryear, which include being a child performer in the early days of television and travelling the country as a musical theatre artiste.
Her captivating story is for anyone who can relate to facing changes, choices and challenges during the swinging ’60s.
Hilary Henshaw is a professional singer, actor, speaker, and qualified music and speech teacher. She has performed in musical theatre, opera, cabaret and television.
Career highlights include a lead role as Sylviane in The Merry Widow, along with sell-out performances of her one-woman show Bagels to Broadway at Melbourne’s Chapel off Chapel theatre. Talented pianist and music teacher, Maurice Duband, provides piano accompaniment.
