This hysterical tale - which follows a desperate producer and a mild accountant's attempt to make
a fortune by producing a sure-fire flop was the biggest hit to land on Broadway in years. It took home a record breaking 12 Tony Awards!!!!
In brief - Max has just had the curtain come down on yet another failed show - Funny Boy - a musical version of Hamlet. When his young timid accountant Leo mentions that the IRS isn't ever intersted in a show that flops Max decides to capitalise on his talent for staging failures, and after some persuasion Leo agrees to join him.
They find the worst play ever written..........a guaranteed to close in one night beauty, offensive to all races and creeds "Springtime for Hitler, A Gay Romp with Adolf and Eva at Berchtesgaden". We then meet the author,
a nutsy Neo-nazi named Franz, and they then track down the town's worst director and his team,
who only agree to do "Springtime" once they realise they can conform to their credo and 'keep it gay'.
The arrival of a blonde Swedish sex bomb completes the team, and the show is staged on Broadway,
once Max has swindled two million dollars from his army of investors, rows and rows of little old ladies, all hanging out for one last roll in the hay.
Much to Max and Leo's dismay the show becomes a hit, and Max is sent to be tried in court, whilst
Leo cuts and runs to cavort in Rio with Ulla and the two million dollars. Guilt brings Leo back in time for him to earn a five year sentence to Sing Sing prison where Max and Leo earn an early reprieve through their bringing music and joy into the hearts of the inmates. They take their material written in prison to Broadway and hit follows hit for the Producers - Leo and Max!
Tickets are $20 each, no concessions - rating M. Tickets are on sale from Pinjarra Chemist or Muisc Force in Mandurah.
