Bangarra Dance Theatre
True Stories- A Double Bill
Emeret Lu & X300
His Majesty’s Theatre, 825 Hay St, Perth
Friday 29 to Saturday 30 May
Three Performances Only!
After an absence of over eight years, His Majesty’s Theatre is thrilled to welcome Bangarra Dance Theatre to Perth as part of their 20th anniversary celebrations with the dynamic and thrilling double bill entitled True Stories inspired by two diverse Indigenous cultures.
Acclaimed choreographer Frances Rings and dancer-turned-choreographer Elma Kris, together with the dancers of Australia’s most exciting contemporary dance company, share their true stories in Emeret Lu (meaning ‘very old things’) and X300.
“This beautifully devised and executed program of contrasting-but-complementary works from Bangarra Dance Theatre is a definitive demonstration why the company is so admired both internationally and at home” Canberra City News
The passion and energy of the traditional people of the Torres Straits fuels Emeret Lu, an exhilarating choreographic debut by Elma Kris. She explores her people's love of the land, the sea and of each other with an exuberance handed down from generation to generation. The power and excitement of dances celebrating rain, wind, the hunt, desire and pleasure mingle with the charm of the spiritual to create an uplifting work of lasting imagery and a thrilling experience of a fascinating and little-known Torres Strait Island culture.
Some 50 years ago at the edge of the Great Victoria Desert in Maralinga, Southern Australia, Britain and Australia conducted nuclear experiments for more than a decade. The test site was code-named X300. South Australian-born Rings has created a powerful interpretation of the stories told to her by her family of the
desolation of the land and its people.
