VIGIL
by Morris Panych
Vigil is a two hander black comedy that contrasts the morbid and farcical, the outrageous and heart rending in a story about lonely individuals who find an unconventional love for each other.
Vigil is a story about Kemp, a self-centred loner. His life takes another when he gets summoned to the death bed of his aunt Grace, whom he has not seen for some years. He drops everything to travel a thousand miles to look after her in her final days. During this long “vigil”, Kemp reveals his unhappy past and unpromising future. Gradually, both build a connection transcending their isolation and musings on mortality.
