What a Wonder-ful show! Consummate entertainer James Flynn presents a bold musical tribute to global superstar Stevie Wonder in a Perth exclusive at Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Saturday 28 February at 8pm. The impressive six-piece Funk Fraternity Show Band, featuring London-based arranger Andrew Thompson as the musical director, joins Flynn and three other top-flight performers in Wonder-ful – Celebrating the Music of Stevie Wonder. Wonder’s stunning list of hits being performed include My Cherie Amour, Superstition, Sir Duke, Master Blaster, You are the Sunshine of My Life and Lately. The show itself is a story woven around the songs and era of Stevie Wonder. Talented vocalists Shai Yammanee, Chelsea Gibson, Jaya Henderson and Flynn play four characters whose lives are linked through music, love and ambition. An incredible soundtrack spanning four decades underpins the story’s charm, humour and pathos in a show that will delight audiences. This original production, which Flynn wrote and directed, features all the hallmarks of his previous sell-out visits to The Don – exemplary vocals, outstanding musicianship, supremely professional presentation and an immensely rewarding night of entertainment. Flynn has worked as an entertainment industry professional for two decades. As a singer he has recorded six CDs and has toured and performed at festivals throughout the UK, Europe and Australia. In addition to countless stage and television appearances, he has been the support artist for the late great Ray Charles, as well as Martin Taylor, Tommy Emanuel, James Morrison and Demis Roussos. WAAPA Musical Theatre graduate Yammanee has entertained audiences on cruise ships and on London’s West End. Since returning to Perth, he performed as a lead in Rent, Irene the Musical and featured in WA Opera productions of AIDA, Elixir of Love and The Magic Flute. Henderson also performed as a lead in the 2007 production of Rent, played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz and Laurie in Oklahoma! Gibson, a professional musician, Australian Idol 2003 top 20 finalist and former opening act for The Black Eyed Peas, rounds off the cast.
