The Stage Artz Theatre Company are proud to present the smash hit Tony Award winning musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee at the Zenith Theatre Chatswood in February 2009. Set in the Putnam Valley Middle School, 6 unique young people in the throes of puberty compete against each other for the coveted title of Putnam County Champion, a $200 savings bond, and a trip to the National Finals. They are watched over by 3 equally quirky adults – including an ex-convict on parole performing the duties of the comfort counsellor for spellers ejected from the competition – and what results is an hilarious, fast-paced, dog-eat-dog, bizarre, and slightly disturbing insight into the world of junior school competition spelling. As well as our 6 spellers, members of the audience are encouraged to participate in the Spelling Bee, and 4 are chosen for each show, making each performance just as unique, and as hilarious, as the one before it. The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is one of those shows that breaks the musical comedy mould in that it is so simple in its conception, but so brilliant in its execution, making this an unforgettable show the likes of which you are unlikely to see again. Spelling Bee is not only highly entertaining, but offers audience members the chance to perform with the actors on stage as if in a real spelling bee. The shows’ popularity is such that it is a smash hit in the US, and was a sell-out for the Sydney Theatre Company in 2007. This is a show not to be missed! The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee boasts a highly talented cast of 9, including: Scott Clare, Andrew Cook, Luke Davis, Linda Hale, Josephine Ison, Jay James-Moody, Cara Suleiman, Tim van Ewyk, and Liz Webby. Spelling Bee is directed by Sam Neaves, with Musical Direction by Alex Ash, and Choreography by Amy Gough. Tickets can be purchased through the Zenith Theatre 9411 7088. Adults $32, Concessions $25, Groups of 10+ $27 Visit www.stageartz.com.au and follow the links.
