“New Years - House Is A Rockin’”
The South West Blues Club in Bunbury will play host to Australia’s “King of the Keys” in a New Years Eve spectacular one show only WA performance.
Victoria’s Andy Cowan on the baby grand piano, with the fabulous Home Brew band and a ripping horn section – what more could a blues lover want! Bunbury’s own Home Brew band recently enjoyed national exposure when invited to perform at Queensland’s Blues at Broadbeach music festival.
Andy Cowan is one of Australia’s most experienced and talented singer/songwriter/pianists in the Soul-Blues idiom, and has been described justifiably as the "King of the Keys". He ripples, rolls and rocks through original compositions with passionate and soulful vocals, wrapping the audience in his energy and weaving an emotional and spellbinding magic.
Since 1999, Cowan has released six albums through ABC/Warner Music to glowing reviews. He represented Australia in Memphis USA at the International Blues Convention and received an ARIA Nomination for his cd 10.30 Thursdays, whilst One of These Days was voted Blues Album of the Year.
A Tale of Two Cities filmed live at The Basement in Sydney and The Corner Hotel in Melbourne, was released in 2005 as a Special Edition Boxed Set which included the cd Sweet Release plus a 2 hour dvd of solo and twelve piece band performances with special guests including the Horns from Hell.
Cowan's musical career began in Melbourne, Australia, growing up in a household surrounded by music. Following classical piano studies, he began exploring improvisation, and absorbing musical ideas from soul, blues, and folk artists developing his very own signature style that has matured over time.
In his late teens Cowan played and recorded with many well-known Australian and overseas musicians, as well as piano and keyboard arrangements on many film scores - including the cult movie Stone.
Andy Cowan is in constant demand on the east coast and regularly a highlight on the jazz and blues festival circuit. Cowan will perform one show only in Western Australia at the Eliot St Bar, home to Bunbury’s South West Blues Club. Tickets are limited and are expected to sell quickly after Cowan’s highly successful 2006 WA tour.
A talent that has seen him cast in a comparable light to those such as Waits and Morrison.
Andy Cowan is, without question, one of the greatest. ~ Xpress Magazine
When the house is rockin' with the big horn section and Cowan's soulful vocals and keyboards are right out front,
this is killer stuff. ~ Jeff Glorfeld, The Age Entertainment Guide
His songs and style reach back into the very heart of Blues and Soul. Cowan shows himself
to be a great songwriter and musician. ~ Ed Nimmervoll, Music Australia Guide Magazine
