BONE DRY
… when love is thicker than water
Only two things are essential for sustaining life on the land ... water, and love.
Join an array of Perth’s finest performers, including Peter Holland (St Nicholas, PTC) Luke Hewitt (Speed the Plow, PTC)and Steve Turner (The Crucible, BSTC) for an engaging evening of deftly woven pathos and comedy.
Dual Premier’s Literary Award winner, Hellie Turner, has devised yet another ‘great Australian story’. Based on true-life accounts, BONE DRY is about land, life and love. Set in the mid-west, this poignant play personifies ‘drought’ … illuminating the lives of two drought inflicted families, their increasing points of tension and the bedrock of love that ultimately sustains them.
“Ya think ya land’s sacred, that nothin can ever touch it, but all it really takes is a coupla bad seasons back-to-back!”
As the ravages of drought wreak havoc on landscape and lives, the young blokes do their larrikin-best to sustain a sense-of-humour. The water diviner, a last gasp of optimism, douses his way through the parched landscape, whilst out in the paddocks the whimsical livestock proffer a comical ‘Greek chorus’ style view of the human condition.
BONE DRY will make you laugh and make you weep … possibly at the same time. This deeply relevant and extremely evocative drama is not to be missed!
Situated in the ambient grounds of Taylor’s Art & Coffee House, kompany M’s rustic corrugated-iron venue cocoons the bucolic red-earth world of BONE DRY. As always, audience members can enjoy the Taylors’ friendly service by booking in for a pre-show gourmet meal followed by great coffee.
Why not do something extra-special with your friends, family or work mates during this pre-Christmas period? Venture out to the glorious Swan Valley for an end-of-the-year celebration … delicious food and remarkable theatre in fabulous surroundings. It doesn’t get much better!
