The Te Deum is an early hymn of praise. Written in 1892, DvoÅ™ák's Te Deum is considered perhaps his greatest contribution to the oratorio repertoire. Also included in the program is Haydn’s Te Deum composed in 1799. It is a choral drama in three parts that was commissioned by Empress Marie Therese, the wife of Franz I of Austria. Soloists for these performances are: Lucas Richter, Lesley Walton, Jennie Barnett, Annette Eggum, Jennifer Wilson, Robyn Mulder, Dianne Richter, David Cox, Graham Ford and Tim Warren. A third performance will be held on Sunday November 23rd at the Preston Town Hall at 2:30pm, with the Preston Symphony Orchestra and will feature soprano Marilla Homes. Formed in 1985 Diamond Valley Singers, located in the Diamond Valley region, present one staged musical (with the Eltham Orchestra) and at least one oratorio annually. DVS aims to provide local singers with opportunities to be heard in public and to raise money for charity. So far, over $80,000 has been donated to organisations such as World Vision, Community Aid Abroad, Eltham/Diamond Valley Housing Service, Harrison Youth Services, Open House and the Eltham Emergency Relief Fund. New members are always welcome. DVS rehearse on Wednesday nights at the Diamond Creek Uniting Church. Pay at the door.
