Morning Melodies host ARIA Hall of Fame Recipient Keith Potger, founding member of celebrated Australian band The Seekers, will perform a solo concert at the City’s Don Russell Performing Arts Centre on Wednesday 29 October at 11am. This living legend of popular music was last heard at The Don in early 2007, though this is the first time he has performed for the modestly priced Morning Melodies program. His performance will include a diverse array of hits from a career that spans almost half a century. The Seekers were Australia’s first popular music stars when they scaled international charts in the mid ’60s with unforgettable hits like Georgie Girl and The Carnival Is Over. Potger’s involvement with music began in his youth when he taught himself to play the banjo, the 12-string guitar and the recorder. His career in music took off in 1962 when he formed The Seekers with Judith Durham, Athol Guy and Bruce Woodley. The band was an international phenomenon, enjoying a string of successful albums and tours. Its achievements resulted in The Seekers being named Australians of the Year in 1967 and the band was inducted into the ARIA Hall Of Fame in 1995 in recognition of its contribution to changing the public perception of Australian pop music. Since then, The Seekers have reformed on several occasions for various reunion concerts and recordings. After a lifetime of singing and writing songs, Potger launched a solo career in 2004 with his debut album Secrets of the Heart. Admission is $10.50 adults, $9.50 for groups of 10 or more and $3 carers. For bookings, call 9493 4577 or buy online at www.gosnells.wa.gov.au and click on Don Russell Performing Arts Centre.
