Enter a world where the impossible is possible. A world where your fantasies come to life and allow you to achieve all that your mind can imagine. The World in Spite of Itself brings to life the journey of six characters as they transform their own realities through fantasy and play. Challenging the conventional notions of human creativity and success, The World In Spite of Itself conceptualises accomplishment, achievement and self-growth to evolve from the most simplistic elements, rather than from a rigorous scale that our society, at times, judges us by.
The production marks a farewell to winter and celebrates the freshness of the new season, as a culmination of dreams in a fusion of styles including live music, dance, circus and physical theatre. Emerging director and producer, Marisa Garreffa has challenged music and performance artists to blend their styles into a theatrical production around a story that she experienced in a dream. Working closely with new writer Becca Shaw, this physical theatre production aims to translate her written language into a physical performance that is as humorous as it is beautiful to watch. Fusing physical theatre, dance, circus, performance and contemporary music, this performance allows sound and vigour to tell a story, rather than ingenuous language.
The production features an original soundtrack with lyrics by Becca Shaw, featuring the amazing voice of Natalie Gillespie, composed by the legendary Roy Martinez with instrumentals by Shaun Lee Chen and Dan Russell. Performers will be working closely along side famed local sensations Cirque Bizirque to tell the stories of the children, their play, their inner dreams and feelings and their fantasty.
Let a foray of magic, physical theatre and colour, unravel before your eyes, as you become enthralled with this unique production and are reacquainted with your imagination.
