THE DRAWER BOY
By award winning playwright Michael Healey.
Directed by Dee Easton
Featuring: Roger Newcombe, Peter Green and Russell Hutchinson.
Sometimes the journey is within.
A charmingly delicate comedy where one youth’s self-discovery is the impetus for two old friends to re-examine their past.
Morgan and Angus – childhood friends and war veterans share a mysterious secret buried under a comfortable but hard working life on the land. Their routines are interrupted by the arrival of Miles – an ambitious city actor who stays with them to research farming life at first hand for a play that he is writing.
What ensues is an achingly funny battle between age and experience, youth and ideals, city and country life. No-one knows just how much they are about to learn from each other as the lines blur between memory and reality, theatre and life.
An uplifting comedy about the power of story telling and friendship.
The Drawer Boy was rated as one of Time Magazine’s top ten plays of 2001, and was the winner of four Dora Awards including “outstanding new play”.
“*****The Drawer Boy is one of those productions that genuinely lifts the spirit with its ability to blend laughter with tears and capture your heart ”
Mary Coll – Irish Independent 2002
“The Drawer Boy is a beautiful piece of theatre” Sarah McNeill – Post 2002
“…….in Healey’s perfect script this is one of the best things likely to grace Dublin’s stages – Sandra Hurley – Sunday Tribune 2002
