If you loved 'Strictly Ballroom' and 'Dirty Dancing', then relive the honky tonk world of 1930s dance marathons as CLOC Musical Theatre brings you the Australian Premiere of the long awaited dance spectacular, STEEL PIER.
Brought to life by the excitement of sensational dance routines and marvellous jazz age inspired music, STEEL PIER has a brilliant score by Kander and Ebb (Chicago and Cabaret) with melodies reminiscent of the swing and ragtime music of the 1930's: songs that are easy to hum and hard to forget such as 'Lovebird', 'Everybody Dance', 'Second Chance', 'Dance With Me', 'First You Dream' and 'Everybody's Girl'.
Set in the magnificent Marine Ballroom at the legendary Steel Pier in Atlantic City, New Jersey, the story focuses on the love triangle of one time celebrity Rita Racine, known as Lindy's Lovebird, her manipulative husband Mick, the promoter of the dance marathon and Bill, a 'hot dog' aviator. You will also experience a captivating assortment of depression era souls eager to dance their way into fame and fortune.
Once again you can expect spectacular dance routines complete with show - stopping production numbers from the same team that brought you Singin' in the Rain, 42nd Street, My One and Only and Mack & Mabel. Join us for a Busby Berkeley style celestial aeroplane ride complete with tap dancing wing walkers.
