Playlovers, in conjunction with Save the Children organise
a benefit concert for cyclone victims in Myanmar (Burma).

Everyone viewed the devastation that Cyclone Nargis caused in Myanmar (Burma) on the television.  Unofficial UN estimates put the death toll at 216,000 with 2.4 million affected , around 2 million homeless and 220,00 missing. Sadly, these numbers will increase due to lack of food, lack of clean water, lack of shelter and diseases such as malaria.

A small group of concerned people have come together to organise a Variety Concert on Saturday 21st June at Hackett Hall, Draper Street, Floreat.  The night will include singers from various backgrounds and the talented young performers from MSJ Productions will be showing us their moves.  Bantus Capoeira will amaze you with their flexibility and fitness.  We also have stand up comedians to make you laugh and musicians to tap your feet to.  The evening will include various raffles with prizes donated by generous members of our community, including massages, hair cut and colour at Lash Studio, a cycling package and many more.  We will also be auctioning memorabilia mounts, paintings by a local WA artist, a family pass to The Great Escape and a term’s worth of tuition at Kip McGrath, Balcatta. The evening will commence at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $12 and can be bought at the door but, if you choose, you can make a booking on 0415 777 173 so as not to miss out as places are limited.

Save the Children has been working in Mynmar (Burma) for13 years.  Due to their existing programme capacity and their independent status, they’ve been able to provide immediate and ongoing support to the most affected communities.

Andrew Kirkwood, Save the Children’s Country Director of Burma, said: “We know that some areas are still completely under salt water – some people have no drinking water or food. Unless assistance gets into those kinds of areas very soon, the death toll will keep rising. It is a race against time and now our priority has to be those who are left - we urgently need help to be able to reach the surviving children and families and deliver what we know they need.”
