"The Gun"
… shenanigans in the shearin’ shed!!
Scripted and Directed by Hellie Turner
Yarns by John Taylor
Written by double Premier’s Award winning playwright Hellie Turner,
featuring the mighty yarn THE GUN by popular bush-poet John Taylor,
and including some great original songs, join us for a comic day in the life of shearers.
Performed by QUINTIN GEORGE, LUKE HEWITT, LEANNE PAGE and STEVE TURNER …
the accomplished actors of the kompany M ensemble,
who are acclaimed for their previous work in shows such as
ROAD TRAIN, WINDOWS, FAIR DINKUM, LUV STRUK & JEEPERS CREEPERS
In the universal shearing shed Yakka, Blue and Gus congregate at daybreak to shear sheep...
‘cause that's what they do.
Blow after blow, woolly beast after woolly beast, smoko after smoko, run after run.
The shears don't click … but the yapping of dogs out in the pens,
the rowdy clank and robust hum of the machines, the radio belching country tunes at top notch,
and regular demands of "wool away!" blend to form the rugged tapestry of their outback lives.
Blue the exalted 'gun' shearer - champion of the shed!
Gus the humble 'gun' knitter - champion of half the world!
Yakka the wild 'gun' lover - champion of the mattress springs
(according to rousie Jess, the princess of the shearin shed, that is!)
A yard of yarns, a mob of mythology and a bleat of 'bewdiful' acoustic songs combine
to entertain the audience - whether they be shearing savvy or not.
THE GUN has previously enjoyed a highly successful run at the Bendigo Agricultural Show in Victoria,
and a full-house season at kompany M’s home at Taylor’s Art and Coffee House in the Swan Valley.
You’ll be a dag to miss it!
