The tale of Aida, made famous by Verdi's 1871 opera, tells the story of a forbidden and unrequited love. Beginning in the Egyptian wing of a modern museum, a man and woman are swept from an exhibition of Egyptian artefacts back in time to Ancient Egypt. Here, we meet Radames, the captain of the Egyptian guard, who is engaged to Princess Amneris, but who falls in love with Aida, the princess of Nubia. This classic love triangle, taking place during a war drives the plot through the characters love, Amneris’ heartbreak, and the eventual death of the lovers.
This Tony award winning musical features stylised, eclectic music by composer Elton John. From reggae, gospel, tribal and motown, Elton John‘s score brings new life to this ancient tale making it as powerful and engaging as his other musical hits ‘The Lion King’ and ‘Billy Elliot’.
The cast of ‘Aida’ showcases the talents of Chiz Watson in the title role of Aida, Daniel Kenyon as Radames and Tanya Boyle as Amneris. Other featured performers include Carl Olsen, Melissa Nadin, Brad Facey and a talented, supporting ensemble that play the huge array of Soldiers, Ministers, Nubians and Belly Dancers that bring the stage to life!
Taking the creative reins as production team will be; Director: Tim Dennis of Hurstville, Musical Director: Jennifer Parbery of Epping and Choreographer: Tim Watson of Emu Plains.
