Mammalien is a German cabaret. Mammalien is a burlesque variety show. Mammalien is a tinkling, unwinding narrative. And also, Mammalien is all that you’ve ever forgotten, and continually try to forget.
Through theatre, live and original cabaret music, performance art, and just enough strip and tease, Mammalien weaves its way through paths of drama, comedy, tragedy, and horror. Influenced by Theatre of Cruelty, the Grotesque, and Dadaism of 1920’s and 1930’s Europe, Futurist performances of the early 1900s, and Vaudeville theatre, Mammalien seeks to both entertain and thrill audiences by addressing questions of censorship of the self through the themes of sexuality, religion, & war – What are you so afraid of… and why? Do you think if you judge and condemn, then you will be safe from it? Do you think it’s not there in you too?
Staged and seated in a traditional cabaret style space with an open bar, Mammalien is your evening at one of the shows of a touring cabaret troupe, featuring all the strife and rowdiness one would expect while also offering glimpses into the private lives of those who offer themselves up to strangers every single night. Through their lives, and through the show, the audience is offered a reflection of themselves, and an insight into the reasons they themselves are there.
