Three women, three generations, three stories.
Lipstick and Hessian traces the symbols, secrets and inner strength of a feminine underworld throughout the last century via the personal accounts of three hot-blooded Aussie Sheilas!
"Stories stained in Blood and Sweat, Laughter and Tears, bundled in a flaming red-lipped pucker"
Lipstick and Hessian tells the story of three generations of women from the same family. As Amelia Violet dances into womanhood, she reflects upon the incredible stories of women in her past for guidance and inspiration. Lipstick and Hessian is a real-life exploration of courage, war, love, loss, heat and red dirt. Fused with an intricate and evocative live sound scape, this tale is sure to impress.
"What Women have leaped out before me, to leave well-worn footprints on the earth, nothing less than Royalty, of the hot blooded Australian Sheila variety!"
This incredible tale was inspired by stories passed down from writer/director Jo Morris' Grandmother and Great Grandmother. The play reflects the essence of real-life experiences from these courageous Aussie settlers. Set against an Australian backdrop, Lipstick and Hessian is a story of survival in an unforgiving, yet achingly beautiful land.
. . . Red for naked earth and dust and sunburn and blood… and lipstick.
Red for an Australian woman.
Featuring Michelle Robin Anderson (Nominated best newcomer for the 2007 Equity Awards) and Emily Brennan (NIDA Graduate). Make sure you don't miss out on this new show by Jo Morris.
