Walsh is considered one of the most exhilarating playwrights of his generation and when The Small Things premiered in London in 2005, The Guardian gave rave reviews; "This is a small play about the big things and the writing is harrowingly precise and poetic. " The play has most recently been performed in Washington DC where the play received outstanding reviews: If writers paint pictures with words, then Irish playwright Enda Walsh is a graphic novelist — and in this U.S. premiere staged by the contemporary Irish theatre company Solas Nua, Mr. Walsh's stark, black-and-white imagery wells in your mind like blood blisters." The Washington Times – Jayne Blanchar The Small Things tells the story of two people living in houses high on mountain tops divided by a deep valley. The two are alone in a world overcome by a fascist ideology that has violently deprived its inhabitant of speech. Through their chit chat the two battle against the silence, to keep love and hope alive. The Small Things is an aching exploration of language and our need for words to create meaning, to remember our past and to survive. We are thrilled to announce that our premiere of The Small Things will star two of Sydney’s most established actors - Ralph Cotterill and Annie Byron. Ralph Cotterill appeared in Company B Belvoir St Theatre’s acclaimed The Aunts Story (2002) and A Midsummer Nights Dream (2004). Annie Byron recently starred in Parramatta Girls at Company B Belvoir St Theatre and in the Sydney Theatre Company’s production and international tour of Hedda Gabler starring Cate Blanchett.
