Running August 3 - 11, Melbourne's oldest community theatre presents its latest one-act play show, and asks the hard questions: is what you see really there? What happens when all we know and love is overturned? How do we cope with the alterations to our perception?
In Lord of the Fleas, written by Colin Donald and directed by Kara Stacey Merrin, Encino Man meets present-day Melbourne, with all the mayhem and Monty Python madness that entails.
Yes & No was written by Graham Greene and is directed by Peter Paige. It shows us the hilarious results when a director directs an actor whose only lines are "yes" and "no."
Flash Boy, by Felicité Keeble, and directed by Kate Deavin, concerns the betrayal of the Kelly Gang through the eyes of Aaron Sherritt.
In Cleanskin, written by Michael Olsen and directed by Liz Lyons, two women face the Second Coming - but the Second Coming also faces them!
Hartwell has a long and distinguished tradition of one-act plays, and has done extremely well on the one-act play festival circuit. Perceptions should be no different. As producer Michael Olsen sees it: "This show will change your perceptions, the way you look at the ordinary world. Just when you thought you knew everything about the Kelly Gang, or the Second Coming, this show will turn it all upside-down for you.”
