One highlight of this years Fringe, is sure to be the spectacular comedienne, musical theatre and cabaret performer Queenie van de Zandt in “I Get the Music in You”.

“I Get the Music in You” recently had its world premier in Sydney and was so well received by audiences and critics alike that it was immediately picked up by the Ensemble Theatre who held back their launch so they could include the show in their 2006 subscription season! Melbourne audiences will be able to see this hilarious 60-minute all-in-one comedy show, wickedly funny send-up and music lesson when it commences at 8:45pm on Wednesday September 21 at The Storeroom.

In the Scout Hall, right after Senior Judo, close your eyes, open your mind and prepare to ‘get the music in you’ with this intensive one-night “workshop” taught by New Age music therapist Jan van de Stool. Have your shakra cleansed, touch your sacred spot and discover how interpretative dancing can help you. Switching between characters at lightning speed, big-voiced comedienne van de Zandt also sings as the music therapist’s unfortunate students in a performance that hits the high notes of comedy.

Jan van de Stool, the Dutch despot of the evening class, is the outrageous and hilarious creation of writer-performer Queenie van de Zandt and Tony Taylor. Accompanying Jan is her trusty pianist and tea-lady Helen, played by pianist David Young. Queenie was recently seen in Channel 7’s comedy, “Let Loose Live”, and is a Helpmann Award nominee and currently nominated for a Green Room Award for her role as Vicki Nichols in last years critically acclaimed “The Full Monty”. Like Jan – Queenie also hails from Holland – and its a little known fact that as a teenager, she had one of her first forays into performing as part of a Dutch Marching Girl Troupe!

“…you shouldn’t miss it … has her audiences rolling in the aisles…Jan van de Stool is surely destined to become one of our great comic creations…Watching her develop and grow…is amazing. It must have been a bit like that when Mrs Edna Everage first picked up her handbag…” Diana Simmonds - Sunday Telegraph

“…effortless character changes… constant stream of laughs …Van de Zandt is both a fine actress and a powerful singer.” John Shand - The Sydney Morning Herald

“Seasoned performer Queenie van de Zandt effortlessly milked the crowd for laughs. The guy behind me was snorting helplessly trying to keep up as she dropped into one character after another…” Mark Bretherton - The Courier Mail

I GET THE MUSIC IN YOU is proudly part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.
