Writer, Paul Sheldon has just finished his latest novel. A novel he believes is the best he has ever written. After Smoking his single cigarette and drinking his bottle of Dom Perignon champagne, he sets off from the Colorado hotel from which he wrote his very first. He would not make it home.
Awakened by excruciating pain, Paul looks around the room, unaware of where he is. In the corner he hears a voice. A woman walks into view and explains that he has been here for some weeks. His car ran off the road in the snow storm, and lucky for him, she was passing and saw the car down the embankment. Carrying him to safety and patching up his mangled legs he now lays in recovery.
“Who are you”? Asks Paul.
“Why I’m your number one fan,” Replied the woman. “I’m Annie Wilkes”.
In this stage adaptation of Stephen King’s masterpiece of maniac maidens, Simon Moore has recaptured the terror of one of King’s most famous novels: “MISERY”. When Annie Wilkes discovers that her favourite character, Misery Chastain has been killed off, Paul Sheldon’s nightmare begins. He has been given a simple choice by Annie. Bring her back to life, or die.
