*** SPECIAL OFFER. ITA MEMBERS GET TWO TICKETS FOR THE PRICE OF ONE. JUST MENTION THIS ENTRY WHEN YOU CALL FOR TICKETS*** Survival stories from South Africa’s Johannesburg are at the heart of The Exploding Breakfast, a one-man show at Don Russell Performing Arts Centre. Part of It’s On at The Don performing arts festival, the show is based on the experiences of actor-author Ingle Knight who spent three months as a writer-in-residence in this action-packed city. Knight became intimately acquainted with the thriving city while living in one of its roughest neighbourhoods. In The Exploding Breakfast, he brings to life the poets, artists, small arms dealers and live chicken sellers in what is a captivating survival tale. He recounts stories of madness, violence and anger as well as acts of kindness and generosity. Collectively they paint an intriguing picture of a beautiful and complex city rife with contradictions. Ingle Knight has written over 20 plays, musicals and films and has performed in more than 50 professional theatre productions. He has won numerous awards for his work, including the 1999 Premier’s Book Award and The Australian Critics’ Choice Award in 1996. The Exploding Breakfast was originally commissioned by Perth Theatre Company in conjunction with Effie Crump Theatre in 2000. The Exploding Breakfast is not suitable for children under 15 – it contains drug references and adult themes. --
