RISING SUN SHINES WEST: Japanese Art Song Concert Series 3 Different Concerts, spanning over 3 months, introducing the history, literature and beauty of Japanese Art Songs through hypnotic music - which is inspired by Japanese and Western traditions. Performed by top young artists from Australia and Japan, this concert series is not to be missed! 1st CONCERT: Monday 26th March @ 8pm Tickets: $28 Full, $22 Con. For Three Concerts: $70 Full, $55 Con. Performances of works by Minoru Miki, Kikuko Massumoto and Kosaku Yamada, this concert also includes a narrative introduction of Japanese Art Song, the history of Western music development in Japan and the sociological identity of Japanese Art Songs in Japan. Performers: Natsuko Mineghishi, Kenji Fujimura, Amy Valent, Megan Reeve, Cecilia Macaulay, Anna Sakurai 2nd CONCERT: Sunday 20th May @ 4pm Tickets: $28 Full, $22 Con. Performances set by the timeless poetry of Chuya Nakahara and Koutaro Takamura, including song cycles by Yasuo Sueyoshi and Osamu Shimizu. Also featured in this concert are readings of beautifully melancholic poetries of sorrow and love by 20th Century Japanese poets. Performers: Natsuko Mineghishi, Raymond Yong, Cecilia Macauley 3rd CONCERT: Friday 15th June @ 8pm Tickets: $28 Full, $22 Con. Performances of folk-inspired music from Ainu Aborigines, Kabuki theatre and Haiku. This concert also includes Japanese-influenced music written by a Scottish composer, Morris Pert who is accompanied, in dance, by Kunihiko Hashimoto.
