Blood Brothers is one of the longest running musicals on the London’s West End and is written by renowned playwright Willy Russell, who bought to life such gems as Shirley Valentine & Educating Rita. Nominated for 7 Tony awards and winner of 4 prestigious Best Musical accolades, Blood Brothers tells the captivating tale of twin brothers (Mickey and Eddie) born into an impoverished Liverpudlian family. Deserted by her husband, and unable to cope with her oversized brood of 9 children, their mother (Mrs. Johnstone) gives one of the boys at birth to the wife of her wealthy employer. Years later, the brothers meet and become inseparable friends, never knowing that each is related to the other until dramatic circumstances lead to the truth being told… and a tragic ending. Set in the 60’s in Liverpool, England, it will have many of us reminiscing about the Beatles era and a time post Marilyn Monroe. Over the past 20 years, the central role of Mrs. Johnstone has been played on Broadway and London’s West End by such stars as Barbara Dickson, Kiki Dee, Helen Reddy, Petula Clark, Carole King & all 4 of the Nolan Sisters. Casts have also included Shaun & David Cassidy in the role of the twins and David Soul as the Narrator. In the 1988 Australian production, Russell Crowe played the role of Mickey and it was this performance which launched his successful international career. This remarkable musical will be presented by Limelight Theatre Company, which was established in 1990. Over the years the company has presented many multi- award winning productions, including Chicago, Stepping Out and West Side Story. Our director Neil Goodwin, who has over 30 years of theatrical experience, as well as 10 Best Director and 4 Best Choreographer awards to his credit, brings a wealth of talent to this exciting production of Blood Brothers. His outstanding direction of West Side Story for Limelight won 7 Music Theatre Guild awards, including the coveted prize for Production of the Year so we are indeed excited to have Neil at the helm of this magnificent production of Blood Brothers. Our outstanding cast includes Warren Davies as the Narrator, Victoria Zainal as Mrs Johnstone, Sally McKenzie as Mrs Lyons, Drew Downing as Mickey & Heath Harney as Eddie. Blood Brothers continues to play to packed audiences in the Westend and is such a powerful piece of theatre that it is religiously met with standing ovations at every performance. This highly acclaimed musical has been a 12 year dream for the company and we are indeed proud and to present this exciting production of Blood Brothers for your enjoyment. Performances will be held at the Cranbourne Community Theatre, Brunt Street, Cranbourne and opens with a spectacular Gala Premiere on Friday 2nd March 2007. This is truly one show not to be missed!
