THE GHOST PLAY
Suspended in a restless sleep the Lady Aoi lies on the brink of death in hospital. Her young husband Hikaru – disturbed by her mysterious illness – discovers that he is not her only visitor. His jealous ex-lover, Yasuko appears to have become a late-night regular at Aoi’s bedside.
Written by one of Japan’s most famous and passionate writers, Yukio Mishima, The Lady Aoi crackles with sexual tension, dark energy and hidden aggression. With its supernatural undercurrents and haunting images, this production by brilliant young director Matthew Lutton promises to draw its actors and audiences into a new realm of theatrical experience.
Don’t miss this seductive meditation on the pleasure and pain of eroticism in what promises to be one of the highlights of the 2007 UWA Perth International Arts Festival.
