So you think youÂ’ve got a rough job?
Spare a thought for the poor bugger who has to front up every year at the village graveyard, in the cool Irish autumn, to face the task of exhuming the bodies buried more than seven years – all to make room for the most recently departed.
ItÂ’s a job that is frowned on by the rest of the community, a job that leaves many questions unanswered.
For example, what does he do with the bones? And what happens when one of the bodies he has to exhume just happens to be his own wife?
Mick Dowd, played by veteran actor Errol Morrison, is the character with the "filthy occupation" in A Skull In Connemara. Set in the 1980Â’s, this Irish drama is richly crafted, finely worded, and is laced with dark humour.
Gary Caswell plays the local policeman Thomas Hanlon, with aspirations to "Quincy-like" detective work. Also featured are the highly respected Diana Myers as the nosy, judgemental Irish matriarch Maryjohnny Rafferty, and Cameron Asher as ThomasÂ’s naïve younger brother, Mairtin. Currently studying Year 12, Cameron is a talented newcomer to the Lind Lane stage.
Patricia Waterson is directing this, the second of the Martin McDonough "Leenane trilogy". The first play, The Beauty Queen Of Leenane, was also directed by Patricia at the old Lind Lane Theatre four years ago, and was a huge success, garnering several STAR awards.
For lovers of the Irish sense of humor and a dark riddle of death, this is a play not to be missed.
A Skull In Connemara opens at Lind Lane Theatre, 16 Mitchell St Nambour, on Wednesday 14th September. Performances continue on September 16, 17, 21, 22, 23 and 24 at 8:00 pm, with a matinee on Sunday September 18 at 2:00 pm.
Not suitable for children.
