Barking Gecko Theatre Company & DRPAC Present Hidden Dragons...
Experience the wonder of Chinese myths, legends and martial arts in Hidden Dragons at Don Russell Performing Arts Centre.
Barking Gecko Theatre Company returns to The Don for the next school holidays with one of its most successful children’s plays, including a 2004 sell-out season at the Sydney Opera House.
Brendan keeps having dreams about dragons, but what are they trying to tell him?
Fascinated by the mythical creatures in these dreams he sets out on a voyage of dragon discovery.
Along the way Brendan receives insights into his Chinese heritage, learning to embrace this rich ancient culture. Ultimately he discovers that the spirit of his wise Grandma Popo is responsible for the dragons in his dreams.
The performance is colourful, creative and mesmerising, employing a spectacular combination of costume, music and choreography.
Brendan’s bedroom, for example, is transformed in to a den of billowing silk with martial arts action to rival a Jackie Chan movie!
Hidden Dragons is an inspiring tale but, as always with Barking Gecko Theatre Company, there is an important underlying message.
This story of dragon delight is a perceptive look at the multicultural experience in Australia. It explores Australian-Asian life from a child's point-of-view and aims to teach children to accept that we are all unique.
